Shabbat Family Fun

“My husband is not Jewish, and it’s very important to me to pass on something meaningful and Jewish to my son,” says Michael’s mom, Lisa. “Even though he’s only three, the Shabbat of the Month Club kits make it easy for him to fully participate.”

The Shabbat of the Month Club is a new six-month kit subscription that gives families a simple but meaningful way to observe and celebrate the most special day of the week. Designed by JewishBoston.com and supported by CJP, the program includes free home delivery of monthly kits, which contain information about Jewish rituals, recipes, blessings and hands-on Jewish projects and activities for parents and children to do together.

“The Shabbat of the Month Club is for any family who wants to take part in Jewish life,” says Jodi Jarvis, CJP’s Director of Families with Young Children and Interfaith Engagement. “In interfaith families, oftentimes one parent isn’t familiar with the rituals, and the meaning behind them. These kits make Shabbat accessible for everyone.”

Lisa says her son is so excited to receive his box every month that he keeps asking when the mail will come. “The first month, he painted the candlesticks immediately and couldn’t wait to light the candles. Now our Friday nights are really special,” says Lisa.

“On a national level, we’re way ahead of the curve when it comes to reaching interfaith families,” says Jodi. “CJP has made it a priority to welcome them to the Jewish community and to help make it easier to raise Jewish children. By supporting this kind of programming, we’re ensuring a bright Jewish future.”

Thank you for helping us welcome and include everyone who wants to celebrate the beauty of our Jewish traditions. You are truly making a bigger difference!
