Statement on Jerusalem terrorism

We woke this morning to the tragic news of a terror attack in Israel’s capital that left two dead and four others wounded. The terrorist, an east Jerusalem resident, opened fire at a light rail station near Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem before being shot dead by security forces. The victims are 30-year-old Yosef Kirma and 60-year-old Levana Malihi.

In this High Holiday season when Jews throughout the world gather with their loved ones in prayer and celebration, our hearts break at the news that two more Israeli families have been shattered. We mourn with the people of Israel and pray for a speedy recovery for the injured.

CJP urges the international community to condemn these horrific acts and to address the incitement that encourages violence against innocent men, women, and children solely because they are Jews living in their homeland.

In this season of reflection, we pray for the day when our brothers and sisters in Israel can live in peace and security.

May we all be inscribed and sealed in the book of life. Gmar chatima tova.

President, CJP
